The Fall
Rakesh and his trekking team does some magnificent job for Conservation of Forts built by the Great Maratha Warrior - Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
The entire team travels to different forts on weekly basis, analyses the existing situation at fort, comes back and calls for a meeting of core members, decide the course of action to be taken. The visiting team is generally of lesser number while the executing team is large.
One word of caution, that Rakesh shares is whenever Fort Conservation is to be done - Approval from concerned Authority is compulsory. All forts are taken care by different authorities like Archaeological Department or Forest Officer or Gram Panchayat.
A Written permission is required approving the nature of work any team is going to perform because these are historical monuments and you may be held responsible for any damage happening now or some time later too. The application sent to above Authorities must have all the detailing of the work to be undertaken so that there is no doubt in the minds of Officer approving your project.
The next most critical aspect is Safety of the team members participating in the restoration activity. All safety equipments are needed and no compromise in this aspect can be entertained. The Gloves, the Ladder, The Harness, The clips, The Lock etc are some of the key things which one member needs when they go for conservation or restoration work.
It is often said that "The Best swimmer drowns in Water & ends life". This phrase is true and points out towards Overconfidence aspect of an individual. When a trekker is new, he generally is afraid of every step he puts forward and takes maximum care but a regular trekker may just be overconfident at times and put his life at risk. So safety gears may help save life in adverse situations. Safety should not be compromised at any stage.
After ensuring elementary things are in place, the actual work too involves lot of responsibilities. A very simple example illustrated by Rakesh emphasises on this aspect. The fort walls built by stones of those yesteryears are still strong but there are many small plants, creepers, mosses which grow between them during rainy season.
Pulling them out directly is not a great idea, as the roots of such plants may have gone deep into the stones too. When someone pulls such plants out directly, it may loosen the cement, mud and binders of stones which in turn would loosen the stones. The ultimate effect of such multiple uprooting could be fall of the entire wall. Who is responsible? Your intentions of cleaning and restoring the beauty of fort was wonderful but the ultimate result not instantly but after sometime may be huge loss of the entire fort.
The alternate way to handle this situation is to get Chemicals from Forest Officers or specialists in that field and pour them on the plants which would ensure they die and afterwards it can be cleaned in a better way without disturbing the binders of the stones. Plants get removed and stones remain intact for long period of time.
This analogy applies to human life as well. We must regularly uproot and cleanse old and bad thoughts or incidents and try to keep the mind fresh for every coming day. But if someone holds on to such thoughts or remove it forcibly, it may effect the relationship negatively with another person for the entire life. Removal is necessary but the way it is done is very important!!!
Removal of negative thoughts is important in life to avoid a big "FALL" later on!!!
