The Nest

The human thought of being the best,

Rides on arrogance, until put to test,

He feels his creations are safest to rest,

for he never compared them with nature’s nest.

Nests are not what one imagines tree-hanging,

They are bird’s temporary places for camping,

Mostly created on trees, nests are amazing,

Sometimes on the ground, others are cliff-hanging.

The nests of the Montezuma are like low hanging fruit,

found on the lands of the Caribbean, conditions their suit.

Contrary to thoughts, Malleflows create nests very cute,

laying eggs in the ground, the young ones find their route.

A saguaro cactus can be the most uncomfortable place,

But, within that, the Ferruginous Pygmy owl finds its space.

The Sociable Weaver of southern Africa wins the nest race,

Its huge communal nests are free for all after breeding days.

The bird-nest soup created by the saliva of Edible-nest Swiftlet,

This soup is known to adventurous diners, I bet.

The Bowerbird males use all things to make a beautiful set,

Even here the male has to impress the female, taking time to net.

The Ovenbird earns its name for the primitive cooking pots,

These birds adapted to human encroachment, are found in lots.

The Pendulum Tits, the artistic birds which weave perfect knots,

They use animal hair, wool, soft plants, and are seen at various spots.

Bee-eaters have nests with stark holes dug into the ground,

Breeding places for young ones, on the cliff sides they are found.

The Southern Masked Weaver of Africa are the artists uncrowned,

their amazing nests out of wide strips of grass, reeds are round.

These natural habitats of birds are simple yet best,

Human’s comparative nature can never clear the test,

Maximum they may copy a model, to impress the guest,

Nature is a winner beyond doubt, even in this quest.
