Amnesty

28th May marks birth anniversary of the Veer Savarkar
A fierce revolutionary, also a staunch Hindutva supporter
Many opinions in favour and against still linger around this historical figure
Even through many of his acts, controversies he would trigger

While being imprisoned at the Cellular Jail
As per his brother's testimony, his health started to fail
This is the time when he wrote letters seeking bail
These letters gave power to the opposition to upper their tail

Presumed to be written by the revolutionary seeking Amnesty
The opposition blamed it as an act of cowardice, not grounds of humanity
The supporters argued it was a 'Prisoner's Right' to fight against the brutality
To add, they said those requests were for all prisoners, not for himself in totality

Only the history knows what happened those days
Every person today interprets the same story in his own ways
Five decades passed, still someone stirs the controversial craze
Rather than respect the revolutionary and be quiet, everyone joins the rat race

While Gandhi believed in Ahimsa and Non-cooperation
Savarkar was aggressive and practiced revolution
Never aligned with each other in thoughts or in action
Both, seeking help or extending help, was never in question

Savarkar's name appeared as a co-conspirator in Gandhiji's assassination
One more chapter added to controversial book of contradiction
Thereafter he became 'politically untouchable' considering the situation
The truth still lies buried but in the entire episode, the loss is suffered by the Nation.
